The Green Transport Tirana project represents one of the most significant urban mobility transformations in Albania in recent decades. By introducing an electric Bus Rapid Transit (e-BRT) system across three primary corridors, the project seeks not only to modernize public transport, but to fundamentally reshape how the city moves, breathes, and interacts with its urban space.

The Green Transport Tirana project is planned to modernize public transportation in the Albanian capital, primarily by replacing diesel-powered buses with the creation of Tiranaʼs first Electric Bus Rapid Transit (e-BRT) system. This will develop a more attractive public transport, which will produce less greenhouse.

Expected environmental and social impact of the project:

  • Reduced GHG emissions and pollution
  • Improved air quality and life
  • Enhanced transport quality and accessibility
  • Safe and inclusive mobility for all
  • Shift to sustainable public transport
  • More efficient urban mobility system
  • Strengthened stakeholder engagement

The Municipality of Tirana signed a consulting contract with a consortium led by INGEROP – Conseil et Ingenierie (France).

The consortium also includes: TTK – Transport Technologie Consultant Karlsruhe GmbH (Germany); iCE – Illyrian Consulting Engineers (Albania). Additionally, CoPlan – Institute for Habitat Development (Albania) is participating as a sub-consultant.

CoPlan will assist in these three components:

  • Communication & Visibility Plan
  • Gender Equality
  • Waste Management
