Co-PLAN organizes working meetings in 6 municipalities within the project “Drafting Local Disaster Risk Reduction Strategies and Action Plans for 6 Municipalities of Fier District”

Co-PLAN – Institute for Habitat Development and MetroPOLIS within the project “Drafting Local Disaster Risk Reduction Strategies and Action Plans for 6 Municipalities of Fier District” organized working meetings in the municipalities of Fier, Lushnje, Divjakë, Patos, Roskovec and Mallakastër in order to orient future activities and investments for the reduction and management of disaster risk in a comprehensive and inter-institutional way.

Fier County, due to its position in the western foothills of the country, is considered a county exposed to the risk of various disasters. Climate change has made the incidence of these events higher, leaving local authorities and the population unprepared regarding the measures to be taken for disaster prevention, preparation, response and recovery.

During the meetings, our experts had the opportunity to share their expertise about risk reduction with the cross-sectoral working group set up by each municipality, as well as to discuss the concrete steps that should be taken to address the problems. In these meetings, the first concepts for the vision, strategic objectives and project ideas were presented, which were discussed in detail. These were only the first meetings in the framework of the drafting of the strategies, and then the discussion will be expanded to include other interest groups and citizens.

This project is financed by UNDP within the project: “Strengthening regenerative skills in Albania” RESEAL and is supported by the National Civil Defense Agency. The RESEAL project is funded by the Swedish and Portuguese Governments.
